#8: The First Night in Utopia.

"Let's get going, then," Lou said.  "I can start programming; who else can start earning money right away, and who needs money to begin projects?"

"I need money for canvases, though I should be able to turn them around pretty quickly," said Peter.

"I need ingredients--that is, ALICE and I need ingredients--to cook," said Kelly.

Derek said, "I can start fishing, to have something Kelly--and Alice--can cook with, and maybe something extra to sell."

Bill said, "I need money to start crafting sculptures.  But I could start by collecting."

He and Derek headed out.

"I need to buy seeds," Regina said,  "But I could start by going out to the park and harvesting some plants.  Kelly--and Alice--can use some of them for food, and I can sell the rest.  Or I could just start writing my gardening book."

"I should probably just start practicing guitar, so I can earn tips," Dude said.

Lou and Regina started programming and writing, respectively.

Kelly and Alice sat down to watch the Cooking Channel to wait till they had enough money from Derek and Bill to start cooking.

And, since Peter was waiting for money for canvases, he figured, "Hey, I guess I'll just watch Food TV with the girls."

Lou advanced to the point where she could make a plugin.  Her first one earned her a grand total of $10.

"Good job, Lou!," Regina said cheerfully.

"It's not much, but it's something," Lou said grimly.

Regina managed to write her first (very short) gardening book: "Regina's Radishes", and went outside to put it in the mail to self-publish it.

While outside, she listened for a short time to Dude practicing guitar.

She went back inside and said, "Geez, Lou--that guy's awful!  I don't think he's going to earn any money in tips for quite a while...."

  1. I love the way you set this up within the story and giggled over Regina's comment about Dude's musical ability. :)
