#124: The SimRay's Awesome Transformation Power

Although Devin had upgraded his SimRay too late in the workday to be able to practice with it at the science lab, that night at home he tried to "Transform" his outdoor trashcan,

and ended up with a woodworking table.

Since the trashcan had been worth only $220, and the new woodworking table was worth $750 (and since Devin had no interest in woodworking), he immediately sold it--for a profit of $530.

"This is COOL!!!" he exclaimed.

_______________

By the time the sun came up, Devin was still at it.  He had come up with a procedure of repeatedly filling his front yard with Kaboom boxes at a cost of $150 each, transforming them all one by one,

and seeing what resulted.

Then he sold every new object that was worth at least $250 (so, a profit of $100), and also any new object that couldn't be transformed further, and then transformed what was left.

He often ended up with items of lower value than the Kaboom box, but once in a while he got really lucky--such as when the result was a $2,500 book called, "How To Be A Successful Socialite" (which Devin found very difficult to part with),

and another $2,500 book called, "Baking, Vol. 3."

He also got some cool stuff like a "Build Your Own Rocket Kit," and a $1,475 television.

After several long days of arduous tasks (some of which were impossible to do), Lou was finally promoted to Medical Assistant.

_______________

Lana caught another perp,

and was getting to be very good at being very bad.

She was promoted to Detective--she was bulldozing her way through her new career.

Back at her rental house, exhausted, Lana went straight to bed.  'Geez, I can't WAIT to have enough cash to get out of this dump."

Derek had taken Declan to the park again.

Derek had thought it would be fun to grill hamburgers in the park for the two of them, so he'd had Declan ask Kelly if that would be okay with her.

Kelly hadn't minded.  (She was happy to have the house to herself for the evening.)

"Declan, dinner!" he called.

"You having fun?" he asked the kid.

"Yeah, pretty much," Declan answered.  "School still sucks, though."

"But we've done your homework every night since you came to stay with us," Derek observed.  "Surely your teacher must have noticed that."

"She said something about my 'participation'," Declan grumbled.

"Do you talk in class?" Derek asked.  "Or ever raise your hand?"

"Nah, that's for nerds," Declan said dismissively.

_______________

"Why are we stopping here?" Declan asked, as they entered the Movers and Shakers gym.  "I thought we were going back to your house."

They climbed the stairs to the locker room.  "We're here so you can take a shower," Derek explained.  "Because I haven't managed to get a shower for our house yet."
