#55: House ... work, Part 3

Alice got back to Regina and Bill's just after 10:00 p.m., completely exhausted,

and immediately went upstairs to the spare room Regina had set up for her, and collapsed into sleep.

_______________

She awoke at 4:00 a.m. and cleaned the kitchen.

Dude had come back from work at 11:00 p.m., and had slept in the other upstairs bedroom.

Kelly had come back from the restaurant at 2:00 a.m., and was still asleep in the bed she had shared with Alice.

None of the three had gotten promoted that day--perhaps not surprising given the stress of finding out suddenly that they had to move out of the Utopia House.

Bill and Dude started replacing the front door,

and Regina resumed her latest book in the writing corner she'd set up.

"Come and get it!" Alice called as she plated her pancakes.

"You're putting another door INTO that big empty spot, right?" Regina teased Bill,
.

(There was now a huge gaping hole where the old front door had been.)

"Oh, I don't know," Bill teased back.  "Aren't you enjoying all this fresh air???"
_______________

Derek started his day by collecting, then fishing.  He was trying to save $1,630 to buy a microscope that would allow him to earn a lot of money on his days off from work.

Just before he had to leave for work at 1:00 p.m., he caught a trunk containing one apple, which got him up to $1,295.

 _______________

Bill and Dude finished installing the new front door, and put up some coathooks.

Kelly awoke, and ate a Garden Salad standing up while Alice was cleaning the dining room table.

"So, are we all going wedding gown shopping today?" Regina asked excitedly.

"Sure!" chirped Kelly.  "Both Alice and I are off today, so as soon as I finish eating, we can go!"

"It's good you're going out, honey, if you want me to replace this dinky little window over your computer with a decent one that doesn't let mosquitoes in," Bill advised.

"Do I have to wear a bridesmaid's dress?" Alice asked Kelly.

"No, honey," Kelly assured her.  "Just pick a nice, modest dress that will look good in the pictures."
_______________

The girls came back from shopping several hours later to find the results of Bill and Dude's afternoon of projects.

"Wow!" Regina exclaimed to Bill.  "This is WAAAY more than just replacing a 'dinky little window'!"

"Well, if you buy the windows in bulk, you get a better price," Bill explained.  "And the doors were on sale for only a limited time, so ...."

"Good thing we didn't bring you shopping with us," Regina laughed.  "You would have been putty in the hands of all the salespeople!"

"Umm, Bill, this door doesn't seem to lead to anything," Regina observed.  "Except maybe a concussion!"

"Just wait till you see TOMORROW'S project!" Bill said excitedly.
